With the increasing panic surrounding global climate change, cities across the globe have been coming together to bring attention to a crisis which hits future generations for decades to come. The series “No Planet B for Generation Z” features photographs taken during the Youth Climate Strike in New York City. On March 15th, 2019, thousands of Generation Z teens and youngsters gathered at the Southwest Corner of Central Park, climbing on the heroic figures of the USS Maine National Monument, their fists in the air.
The madding whirlwind of Columbus Circle traffic blended with passionate chants of resistance. As the crowd headed North past the ominous Trump Tower International, the young protestors radiated rebellion as they marched beside veteran activists. Elementary schoolers stood fiercely holding signs high on the Romanesque steps of the Museum of Natural History. All ages joined forces in rally call, sounding the alarm on rising sea levels, drought, forest fires, and the lack of leadership in the Trump administration.
With every exposure, I was able to capture the urgency and earnestness of Generation Z. As the youth came together on climate in one of the world’s largest metropolises, they showed New York City just how vital their role is in preserving Planet A.
